My grandfather, Rabbi Solomon Fisch was born into an orthodox family in the small, predominantly Jewish township of Wolbrum, situated about 50 kilometers north of Krakow. As was customary, the community encouraged its most gifted young men to pursue rabbinical studies in more prestigious institutions than Wolbrum had to offer.
